A Penetrating Gaze at Elysium’s Show of March 29th 2019

It was the last Friday of the month, that meant it was a THEME show! The theme being, Elton John/Billy Joel. Either or both! We had some fabulous new acts and some older ones that haven’t been seen in a long time. Take a look at what went down in The Empire Room at Copperhead Road, with your hosts Paul and Jilley and DJ Gunner spinning the tunes, The Wiz wrangling the out of control talent backstage… what a fun night!

Billy Joel – This Night

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
We got a theme for this week Elton John OR Billy Joel. I love them both but I really had a picture in my head of doing at set to Billy Joel’s song “THIS NIGHT.”
It felt very much a 60’s kind of song so made my set to fit the song.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Making sure that the dancers did not run into or over each other since they were moving around very close.

3. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Theme dances are always fun and especially this one so very classic. I love the 50’s and 60’s music.

What advice would you give to someone new to dance?
Sometimes you have to push yourself to be brave enough in order to break your own boundaries. Step beyond your own expectations and fears in order to create something completely unexpected. How can we expand and become more if we don’t allow ourselves to bloom?

Two Fuxs – Adam Lambert

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
My inspiration is seeing so many people trying to make others do what they want them to do an live as they want. I think it’s important to live as you want and make yourself happy, that goes for a job a dance a relationship. Live for you not others, unless your other is your family or the person you plan to spend the rest of your life with. Your real friends will stand by you. those that don’t then do you really give two fuxs?

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
I had some scripts in this originally that were non copy causing issues adding to rezzer. I also redid the choreography from the original to eliminate the sliding from a year ago. Funny how much you learn in a year.

3. What does this dance mean to you?
Just a little reminder to find what brings you peace not what others tell you should bring you peace.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Namaste is usually spoken with a slight bow and hands pressed together, palms touching and fingers pointing upwards, thumbs close to the chest. The literal translation of the word โ€œNamasteโ€ breaks down into three sections…Nama means bow; as means I; and, te means you. Thus, I bow to you. The gesture is one of greeting in India. Most often we hold our hands together in the prayer position at our heart chakra.

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
It actually wasn’t my choice, it was chosen for me! I really do enjoy when people toss something like a song at me and say ‘see what you come up with’!

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Choreographing a group including formations and ALL THOSE MOVERS! That’s a skill I’m working to improve.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
Just enjoyment and accomplishment really. Not a lot of deeper meaning than that.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
That the beautiful set was built by the amazing Royal Shippe! I hope it gave people a few minutes of fantasy and joy.

Nothing More – Go To War

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
Babypea and her love for the unusual songs, which we seem to have in common at times, tho i do have an extensive repertoire of epic pops ๐Ÿ™‚

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Particles are always a challenge but a huge challenge in lag as they are unpredictable

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
Well the dance is just fun

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Lag or not keep at it, we control this as best we can

A Look at Elysium Cabaret’s Show of March 8th, 2019

It was a Friday night which meant, it was ELYSIUM CABARET! Jilley and Paul welcomed guests as DJ Gunner warmed everyone up with his rockin’ tunes. The Wiz was backstage, hard at work making sure all the busy details were tended. Babypea as per usual was passed out in the gutter but coming to just in time to stagger in for the show. Always exciting, but this night there was extra excitement in the air, because it was Kelly’s debut on the Elysium stage! We are thrilled to have Kelly sharing her creative vision with us. She put great care into her dance, complete with scene changes, mover work, and choreography that perfectly suited the song. It was a privilege to be able to share this special event with her, and we all look forward to seeing more of Kelly’s dances.

Let’s look at some pics from the show but FIRST!!!! CONGRATULATIONS to THE WIZ for winning tonight’s Golden Tweezers Award! And don’tcha wonder what he was referring to when he said THIS:
[18:24] Wiz Nirvana: Is it OK to say something sexual?
[18:25] Wiz Nirvana: We’re Fucked!!!

Elysium’s Show of March 1st, 2019

It was a star-lit night at Copperhead Road as friends and family gathered in The Empire Room to spend a precious hour together, celebrating dance and bidding the weekend a warm welcome. YAY the weekend! Time to relax and do what we love. And at Elysium Cabaret, we love music and movement. We love intricate sets, fabulous costumes, and tightly syncronized dance sequences. Let’s take a look back at the show which featured some of the finest and most dedicated choreographers in Second Life, complimented by some very sexy dancers. With thanks to DJ Gunner for the music, Paul, Jilley, Wiz and Babypea for the Administrative responsibilities, and the AUDIENCE for all their generous tips, love and support! I have asked the choreographers to share a few words about what advice they would give to someone new to dance. Those who chose to contribute will have their replies posted with the pictures of their acts, with thanks and gratitude for having a spirit generous enough to share.

But first let us congratulate tonight’s winner of the Golden Tweezers!! CONGRATULATIONS JENI for this:

[2019/03/01 18:08] Jeniale Inglewood: Requesting an encore at the end….all I saw were dancing jock straps. >.>

What advice would you give to someone new to dance?

Be yourself, express yourself, don’t think you have to do certain styles if it’s not you an you don’t feel it don’t.
This is your chance to be creative and share yourself. Create your masterpiece from your heart.
Never be afraid to ask questions, and never stop learning.

Britt

A garage and a group of sexy gals, all that grease… no wonder they are so dirrty!
Christina Aguilera “Dirrty”

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
Christina Aguilara’s Dirrty is one of the very first routines I ever created in SL when I came back to SL and joined the wider dance community about 3 years ago in Dance Xcetra. It’s always held a special place in my heart. A fun song…. a naughty song. One of girl bonding stepping out and saying here we are boys… Be prepared…

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
This one was hard for me. I looked at the set. Not so much about the timing but more because I looked at the set. I looked at the dance. At who I was then and who I am now. I had to destroy everything and start over because that is not who I am anymore. The Britt I was in 2015/16 when I created this is no longer the Britt who dances today. I created the original dance in huddles, this time around I created it all with Spot On.

3. What does this dance mean to you?
It’s about growth and about letting go of the past and moving forward.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
How much appreciate my family I have today. I couldn’t have done this without them. Their support and confidence in me has helped me grow and continue to grow and learn every day.

What advice would you give to someone new to dance?
Go into it remembering that dancing is meant to be fun. Find the fun in dance and try not to stress. Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help from others who dance and always remember that no matter how long you dance there is always things to learn.. There will always be someone who si better then you and people you can learn something new from, so do not let your pride get the better then you. and last but not least HAVE FUN! We are a family and a community…
