The Prince Who Was Promised

This has nothing to do with dance or even SL. But I need to say this some place publicly. The Prince Who Was Promised is Bran. I know everyone thinks it’s someone else for obvious reasons. If you haven’t seen episode 3 of season 8, I won’t explain why I am sure it is Bran, because I don’t want to do spoilers. If you don’t watch Game of Thrones, you can simply disregard this post.

Twerking in the Rain by Todrick Hall

These questions were answered for me by Web, so they are her answers really. But upon reading them, I have to say, she answered them the way I would have, so really they are my answers written by Web.
1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
I love Toddrick, his energy is contagious. He’s so cuuute too! And the theme was rain.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Finding enough dances to make my booty bounce for the whole tune. And animation places with no search-able process!
Added by Pea: AND the costumes! OMG try finding raincoats that dance O.O but Web found them. I detest shopping.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
There’s some ASS in the forecast! All fun!

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
I wanted skimpier outfits but Web is a prude! They were soooo almost not there 😛
Added by Pea: Nods and nods. I wanted something see-through to show some bewbies! YAY for bewbies!

5. What advice would you give to new dancers?
Dance isn’t a competition, if you think it is, then stop now. Just do your best to convey how the song inspires you. And shake your money maker!

6. Tell us about any pets you have in real life.
Two dogs, a demanding cat, a lizard and a bird who likes to chew wires (oops, I’m back now) and a couple mammals 😛
Added by Pea: The mammals are humans. An other-half and an offspring.

7. What are your other interests in SL outside of dance?
Wait, there’s something besides dance?! Don’t tell Web, she will want me to play that confounded game Skipee. And she cheats! I don’t want to play if I can’t WIN!
Added by Pea: YES and YES!!!!

8. Share the love! Who is one of your favorite SL dancers other than yourself?
Melvis is one of my faves, he always comes up with great ideas and killer sets!
Added by Pea: And he is so sweet!! I love his choreo. I think he is brilliant.

The song was one I enjoyed watching Derek Choreograph I used it for the bear benefit show as well. seemed to fit then and now.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Really it the hardest part was the jump and land properly over the drums without dancing into them.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
Just a bit of fun, and I like water it’s calming.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Just enjoy it thats why I put the dances out there for people to enjoy and share my art with them.

5. What advice would you give to new dancers?
Be yourself, don’t be afraid to ask questions, bring YOU to the stage not someone else.

I have a Shih-Tzu that is a forever toddler.

7. What are your other interests in SL outside of dance?

8. Share the love! Who is ONE OF your favorite SL dancers other than yourself?
I can’t pick just one, each one brings something interesting to the stage each week, so every dancer is my favorite.

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
I found the song on youtube while searching for music for some act, I saved this to watch later, then when I heard that the theme was Rain I immediately thought of that one and got to work right away. The song was the inspiration and the lyrics its a beautiful song.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Working with the fountains that I used was the biggest challenge, I am glad I got them right but when I would move them they would jump back then forward into place so I kept moving them thinking they were not where I wanted them.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
It was fun to create but when I heard the song it was uplifting to me. It reminds me that no matter how bad things are or can get there is still hope and better times will come. Sometimes the storm we are in becomes the blessing only we cannot see it at the time.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
I just hope you enjoyed it.

5. What advice would you give to new dancers?
Remember to have fun, and try to keep a balance between dance, and other things you enjoy in SL. I have found that some of my best creations come from different experiences I have had in SL.

6. Tell us about any pets you have in real life.
My dog Tigger, he is so cute. He is a rat terrier mix with black and white markings. He is such a smart little guy. Most of you know that my dad has Huntington’s Disease, when my dad calls for help he will bark until one of us gets to my dad. He is a very special boy. However he pouts if he does not get his favorite treats.

7. What are your other interests in SL outside of dance?
I enjoy spending time at Xaara, they are a rp sim. Also, exploring various sims. Mostly I enjoy spending time with my Tristan.

Elysium Cabaret April 19th 2019 Show

It was time to dress up to the nine and slip into your limo for the ride to the elegant Empire Room, high in the sky of Copperhead Road.  Friends and family gathering, looking forward to seeing you, Paul and Jilley waiting to greet you and welcome you with the finest champagne, DJ Gunner’s infectious tunes getting the blood in your veins throbbing with the beat… what a night as you wait for the show to start!

But this does make me wonder.  What exactly does it mean to get dressed up to the nines?  I mean, I know what it means, but where did that expression come from?  Let’s find out.

“To the nine” is an English idiom meaning “to perfection” or “to the highest degree” or to dress “buoyantly and high class”. In modern English usage, the phrase most commonly appears as “dressed to the nine” or “dressed up to the nine”.

The phrase is said to be Scots in origin. The earliest written example of the phrase is from the 1719 Epistle to Ramsay by the Scottish poet William Hamilton:
The bonny Lines therein thou sent me,
How to the nines they did content me.

Robert Burns’ “Poem on Pastoral Poetry”, published posthumously in 1800, also uses the phrase:
Thou paints auld nature to the nines,
In thy sweet Caledonian lines.

The phrase may have originally been associated with the Nine Worthies or the nine Muses. A poem from a 17th century collection of works by John Rawlet contains the following lines:
The learned tribe whose works the World do bless,
Finish those works in some recess;
Both the Philosopher and Divine,
And Poets most who still make their address
In private to the Nine.

Well there is a bit of trivia for you. Now let’s look at the show!

‘Fall on Me’ by Andrea Bocelli

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
The words, the melody, the inspiration that came to me. I knew when I first heard it that I had to create an act to it. Took a while.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
To create the emotions that the song evokes so people also feel it within. Finding the right animations, timing them was indeed challenging. I hope I succeeded.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
I think it is mainly purely inspirational. When you are perhaps down or want to share something., There is always that special person you can ‘fall on’.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
I knew, right from the start, only one person I could dance this with, my partner of almost 2 years, Diawa. She is my inspiration one that I know I can ‘fall on’.

5. What advice would you give to new dancers?
So important to me is to first ‘feel’ the song. Then everything else will come to you. Choose a song that inspires ‘you’ .

6. Share the love! Who is ONE OF your favorite SL dancers other than yourself?
I think that may be pretty obvious haha.
I hope everyone enjoys my act as much as I am in presenting it to you.

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
OMG it was the funniest and cutest song I found about Japanese people learning English words lol. I just felt I had to do it.

2. What does this dance mean to you?
I love the Japanese culture and this just made me laugh.

3. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
It was just the desire to bring this funny little song to life its so much fun to be able to do that with songs we enjoy.

Jo
With Kelly, Corri, Queenie and Nadi
No one knows who I am – Deborah Cox from Jekyll & Hyde

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
I’ve wanted to do this song for a long, long time but couldn’t come up with a meaningful concept. Finally I had an idea which I hope works.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Finding dances to fit the tempo of the song was very difficult, especially with two different styles going on at the same time. I think sometimes I didn’t succeed completely in that but hopefully no one minds.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
It’s means a great deal to me actually. It’s very emotional. I think a lot of of people often feel that no one really knows who they are or even cares. It’s about being different, not fitting in, but trying so hard. For a few moments the dancer breaks away and stops pretending. She dances her real feelings, her longings, her dreams. But in the end she falls back into line and puts on her mask again.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
I think I’ve said it all above, probably way too much.

5. What advice would you give to new dancers?
Take it seriously. Have fun but be “professional” about it. Learn as much as you can about the “how to” from others but also observe carefully, especially your own dances. Cam back as if you were the audience. Does your costume fade into the set? Is there something jarring on stage? Check the “big picture” as well as the details.

6. Tell us about any pets you have in real life.
Sadly none at the moment. I’ve had dogs my whole life but it’s not possible right now.

7. What are your other interests in SL outside of dance?
I’ve been involved in the SL Art scene for many years as a gallery owner and curator. Currently I curate the Men in Focus Gallery on the Men in Motion Campus and I’m a longtime member of the Linden Endowment for the Arts Committee. I take photos although not as much as before I took up dancing. Then there’s shopping! Sighs.

8. Share the love! Who is one of your favorite SL dancers other than yourself?
There are so many I could name but for now I’m going to say Jilley Resident. I find her creativity extraordinary and extremely varied, from arty to just plain fun. A very talented woman indeed! Queenie and I often mutter to each other when we see Jilley dance, why do we even bother.

Elysium Cabaret’s Show of April 12th 2019

It was Friday night which means it was another exciting show from Elysium Cabaret, in The Empire Room at Copperhead Road! Paul and Jilley welcomed those who came to rock, and DJ Gunner was spinning fab tunes to get everyone bouncing in their RL seats, The Wiz patrolled the backstage, ironing out pre-show wrinkles. And the best part of the night: The return of Canon’s thong!!!! *bows head and takes a moment of silence*

4. What are your other interests in SL outside of dance?
I need a life outside of SL dance….

Aloe Blacc – I Need a Dollar

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
Well, the time snuck up on my this month, so I reached into my bag o’ sets and came up with this one. I originally performed this March 13 2013. “I Need a Dollar” is a great song that was recorded in 2011 by Aloe Blacc. I used a version made in 2011 where he sings in a small club with a small ensemble of violins and cellos while wearing a tux. It was interesting because the performance contrasted the subject matter of the song so much. So I decided to take it one step further and busk in a tux.

2. What advice would you give to new dancers?
Get involved. Hang out with dancers. Learn to build. Learn to choreograph. Help out when you can. Ask questions. LEARN.

3. Tell us about any pets you have in real life.
Suz and I have a long-haired calico named Pixel. She has a solitary black dot on solid white rear leg, hence the name. I wish I could get away with as much sleep as she does.

4. What are your other interests in SL outside of dance?
I work as a project coordinator and trainer in a small software development shop. I don’t have a lot of spare time but I occasionally teach origami.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
Nah nothing deep and meaningful with it

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Try new things, pray the lag doesn’t totally destroy and have fun

5. What advice would you give to new dancers?
Keep at it and keep trying, you will have some great shows!

Where Did You Sleep Last Night – Nirvana

What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
I am haunted by this song so heavily researched it. It is a folk song that goes back at least to the 1870s, and no one knows its origin or meaning. I think it is about a woman who pushed her husband in front of a train to kill him. Maybe he was abusive, maybe she just wanted to be rid of him. But I have thought about it since making this dance, and maybe her husband was lynched and she ran away because she was scared whoever killed him would come after her. I guess we will never know what it really means. But it is haunting.

Share the love! Who is ONE OF your favorite SL dancers other than yourself?
Royal Shippe. He is astonishing, insanely talented, a true artiste, and a visionary. I don’t think he is human, he is more a demi-god to me. I am blown away by what he can do with movers and animations, plus his builds are legendary, his costuming is always eye-popping. He is simply brilliant. And generous… always happy to help, share, and offer advice when asked. I think he is marvellous, and he is one of my fave SL dancers. Other than myself. *snorts*

A Loving Look at Elysium’s Show of April 5th 2019

It was another Friday night, which means friends, family, and new friends to be made gathered in The Empire Room at Copperhead Road to see some of Second Life’s finest stage dancing. DJ Gunner warmed up the crowd with his infectious tunes as Paul and Jilley welcomed arriving guests. The Wiz kept things orderly backstage as dancers warmed up, adjusted costumes and applied their final makeup. A hush fell over the crowd as Wiz made opening greetings and announcements. The Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling” sang over the airwaves and WELCOME TO THE WEEKEND! Let’s take a look at the show and read the comments from some of the talented creators of the fine acts performed tonight!

Antonio
It’s no mere coincidence that Ant rhymes with enchant, and enchant he did with this mesmerising metaphoric creation.
Pray – JRY Rooty 50 shades darker

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
I’d listened it before, then it started building it’s self in my head, then I realized it was a continuation of my Arsonist Lullaby, I started a little different than that set ended. Also I started finding things in my inventory that let me know this was what I was meant to put out as an artist you sometimes have to listen to your soul when it speaks and gives you all the signs.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Keeping myself out of the fountain when I danced.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
In arsonist Lullaby the demons were controlling me, in this dance I show how I am now the controller of the demons and have more control.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Sometimes things you see on stage, are not always what was meant to happen, as we build behind the scenes there are times we may have one vision but a beautiful accident happens, that happened in a particular spot on this dance sometimes the dance Gods shine upon us.
