It was Friday night which means it was another exciting show from Elysium Cabaret, in The Empire Room at Copperhead Road! Paul and Jilley welcomed those who came to rock, and DJ Gunner was spinning fab tunes to get everyone bouncing in their RL seats, The Wiz patrolled the backstage, ironing out pre-show wrinkles. And the best part of the night: The return of Canon’s thong!!!! *bows head and takes a moment of silence*
Check out the pics, have a read of the choreographers who have elected to share a bit of insight, and of course, WELCOME TO THE WEEKEND!

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
It sounded like a song from a bond film, and I wanted to be a bond girl!
2. What advice would you give to new dancers?
Learn as much as you can from anyone who can help you.
You will be your own worst critic.
Some dances you create will suck but you have to just try again.
You will get a set complete and then throw it away because you hate it.
Don’t compare yourself to other dancers, you will, but don’t believe it.
Don’t dance for the L, dance because you have to!
3. Tell us about any pets you have in real life.
I’m a rescue mom! I had a bichon that passed away that was a rescue from the side of the road. She had with a free sign, a crate and her toys. I now have a dog named Bella and a kitty named Thomas O’Malley, both are rescues.
4. What are your other interests in SL outside of dance?
I need a life outside of SL dance….
5. Share the love! Who is one of your favorite SL dancers other than yourself?
Choosing a favorite dancer is like having a favorite child! We all have one but we don’t talk about it!!

Aloe Blacc – I Need a Dollar
1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
Well, the time snuck up on my this month, so I reached into my bag o’ sets and came up with this one. I originally performed this March 13 2013. “I Need a Dollar” is a great song that was recorded in 2011 by Aloe Blacc. I used a version made in 2011 where he sings in a small club with a small ensemble of violins and cellos while wearing a tux. It was interesting because the performance contrasted the subject matter of the song so much. So I decided to take it one step further and busk in a tux.
2. What advice would you give to new dancers?
Get involved. Hang out with dancers. Learn to build. Learn to choreograph. Help out when you can. Ask questions. LEARN.
3. Tell us about any pets you have in real life.
Suz and I have a long-haired calico named Pixel. She has a solitary black dot on solid white rear leg, hence the name. I wish I could get away with as much sleep as she does.
4. What are your other interests in SL outside of dance?
I work as a project coordinator and trainer in a small software development shop. I don’t have a lot of spare time but I occasionally teach origami.

Where Did You Sleep Last Night – Nirvana
What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
I am haunted by this song so heavily researched it. It is a folk song that goes back at least to the 1870s, and no one knows its origin or meaning. I think it is about a woman who pushed her husband in front of a train to kill him. Maybe he was abusive, maybe she just wanted to be rid of him. But I have thought about it since making this dance, and maybe her husband was lynched and she ran away because she was scared whoever killed him would come after her. I guess we will never know what it really means. But it is haunting.

Royal Shippe. He is astonishing, insanely talented, a true artiste, and a visionary. I don’t think he is human, he is more a demi-god to me. I am blown away by what he can do with movers and animations, plus his builds are legendary, his costuming is always eye-popping. He is simply brilliant. And generous… always happy to help, share, and offer advice when asked. I think he is marvellous, and he is one of my fave SL dancers. Other than myself. *snorts*
