Elysium Cabaret’s June 14th 2019 Show

What a fabulous night at The Empire Room on Copperhead Road sim! Our cherished audience arrived to find them themselves greeted by Paul and Jilley as Gunner warmed everyone up with great tunes, The Wiz organising busy details backstage, Babypea holing up in a wardrobe closet with a cold Diet Pepsi and a bag of pork rinds. Oh wouldn’t you just love another story! But we had a special pre-show dance tonight… well, more like an intro-show. Our own beloved Jeni danced to Elysium’s opening tune, on a magical platform in front of the stage with neon rings. Look at the cool outfit she wore:

Jeni warmed up the audience and prepared them for the amazing show that followed. Every act was strong and super special, it was one of those shows that just feels good from start to finish. Thank you to all who participated, be in on stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience. Let’s take a look!

Alex & Sierra – Little Do You Know

With Si, Taema, Kyser, Ame, Zach
Santana – The Game Of Love ft. Michelle Branch

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
This dance all started because I wanted to do something sexy and romantic….two things usually missing in my dances. I was wandering around on YouTube listening to many many songs and this one came on and I knew I wanted to dance to it.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Couple dances I have discovered are a legal form of torture in SL and I may have to go to therapy after this dance but I have to admit when I get to watch it dancing it makes me smile.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
I guess I should have paid better attention to the lyrics before starting on this dance because it about torment far more than it is about happy happy joy joy of falling in love. This one has been a challenge on so many levels but I just couldn’t give up on it and maybe that is what the song suggests….fight for what you want and work it through to get the result you crave.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
I wish my Monty was able to be here tonight and dance it with me but I did get to have a lot of fun practicing it with him His support and praise will be with me while I dance it tonight. and an extra thank you to Ray for being that guy I felt comfortable asking last minute to fill in as my dance partner.

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
Once I heard the beat of the song it just inspired me I saw snakes and a desert the rest just fell into place.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Trying to get the 3 of us to crawl out of each flame to make it look real.

3. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Snakes can be sexy too!

Goodbye July – Misty Boyce

I created this dance in dedication to Zhaza Zerbino.

I got to know ZZ through working with her at Dance Queens. She served the entire SL dance community for several years, seldom even getting a ‘thank you’ in return, volunteering her time to promote dance in Second Life. She helped every troupe, every show that reached out to her. She paid for a parcel of land where dancers could go to get information and resources. She was always thinking of new ways to get people involved, such as with her service boards, advertising boards, weekly dance parties, and semi-regular dance shows. She never asked a thing in return. She simply loved dance and the dance community, and gave all she had unselfishly.

I came to know her as a person who accepted others as they were without judgement. She loved other people, warts and all, and never asked them to change. She had a wonderful sense of humour and indomitable spirit. Sometimes, people would get angry about rules in Dance Queens that they didn’t like, and they would get in her face over them. Some people were quite rude, even abusive. But she took them in her stride. I never once saw her lose her cool with anyone. I always admired that about her. She never took altercations to heart, never let anyone get under her skin, and let nothing break her stride. She also never got down in the mud with anyone, no matter how they treated her. I admired her for that. She was so strong and just unflappable, positive and uplifting, and always saw the light in everything. I depended on her for leadership because I trusted her completely. Because she was the kind of person that could be trusted. She was so encouraging and supportive of others.

When she got sick the last time, my only goal was to hold Dance Queens together. When she got back, I wanted her to find everything right where she left it. Cherry Banks and Fuki and I worked hard for this. I never thought for a second she would not be back. I know a lot of people loved her. And we waited. But she didn’t come back. Eventually, I had to find someone else to take over Dance Queens, and so I picked someone who I knew would make ZZ proud. Someone dedicated like she was.

We finally got news that ZZ passed on December 15th of 2017. It still has not sunk in. I keep waiting for her to log back in. I miss her so so much. I love you ZZ, and I hope that some day, one way or another, in one place or another, I will get to see you again. See you for real, not just as pixels. I hope you are at peace and out of pain and suffering, and that your journey continues. One way or another, one place or another.

As ZZ always said, “Let’s Dance!”
