Elysium Gets Bit! October 25th 2019 Show!

Trick or treat? Well plenty of treats and a few tricks this week at Elysium. Since it is Halloween AND the last Friday of the month, it was time for Elysium’s monthly theme show. The theme was BITE ME. Oh I do love the sound of that. Can be taken in so many ways. It was a great chance for me to sneak over and scare the hell out of Stoke. He was AFK and came back to a screen full of THIS:

My delightful new Puppet AO with thanks to Ant, and oh it is the perfect marriage of cute and creepy. I am a creepy doll. But a happy one! Poor Stoke can get no peace:

Welcome to Stoke’s nightmare!! Gawd I love Alice. With thanks to Hell for the hellfire!

As it happened, we were the ones who got the trick played on us when Linden Labs decided to spend today doing maintenance, which caused a lot of issues with our show. HUDs responding slowly, movers dragging, objects not rezzing or refusing to derez… it was frustrating and stuffed up my act in particular, but things settled a bit as the evening progressed. Our professional team pushed through it and still managed to perform a fabulous show. It was really fun in spite of the complications, with friends and family gathering in The Empire Room at Copperhead Road, Paul and Jilley welcoming guests, DJ Gunner kicking out the Ozzy, ACDC, and Black Sabbath, our Wiz doing the patrols, pantie checks and making the announcements… WELCOME TO THE WEEKEND! Let’s take a look at some pics from the show!

Animesh Takes the Stage at Elysium, October 18th 2019 Show

Animesh has actually been featured before on the Elysium stage, but not by me. Which means I could not write about it because, having never used it, I was clueless. Tonight was my first dance featuring animesh. That means I have now used it and understand it well enough to type about it. With animesh, you can animate mesh objects in your dances, and make them dance. Just like a backup dancer. Sounds too good to be true, but it actually works and is surprisingly easy. I had a small army of Predators in my dance. Six all up plus me dancing, and a few others wandering about. To use animesh, I recommend getting Keith Ringgold’s system off of MarketPlace. This is the one:
~RE~ Animesh Relay L$500
https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/RE-Animesh-Relay/16437042

However, the included instructions are vague and confusing. Therefore, I recommend watching Elayn’s videos on YouTube. They explain everything in three short, compact and easy-to-understand videos. Here is a link to the first one, and follow on from there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0VONI-ECWc&feature=youtu.be Thank you Elayn for all your help and instruction!

Though I think animesh is cool and could be useful, the most I can see it doing for now is, replacing backup dancers. I suppose that saves lindens on costumes, but you lose that feeling of camaraderie from working with other people, which is one of my fave things about dance. A couple of funny stories… I was trying to edit the mover linked to one of my predators, and getting really frustrated because I could not grab it in edit. I tried camming all around, camming INSIDE the creature, I just could not grab it. After like ten minutes, getting increasingly frustrated and wondering WHY CAN’T I EDIT THIS… I even tried a relog!!!! I finally decided to completely delete it and rez a new one. That was when I realised I was trying to edit MYSELF! Couldn’t tell me from the other predators on my set. And then later, I tried to put a rez box script inside myself. I figured it out a lot faster for that one, but it was seriously hard to tell me from my other Predators.

It was my adventure in animesh, and now it is no longer a mystery to me. I recommend trying it just for the fun of learning something new. But I still think having backup dancers is more satisfying than objects. Though I am sure using animesh will prove to be, like so many things in SL… limitless possibilities.

Let’s take a look at some pics of our show, and oh of course: WELCOME TO THE WEEKEND! Thank you to everyone who participated in tonight’s show, whether it was on-stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience!

Jo
The Book of Dreams (edit) – Suzanne Vega

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
I found this great book background and thought of the idea of showing as my “dreams” the two things I love most in SL, ballet and Japanese culture.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
The costume changes and the curtain fades in and out. There are 7 curtains fading in and out and 3 costume changes! And I pray they all work!

3. What does this dance mean to you?
Just a different concept I wanted to try.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Just enjoy it! And pray with me that it works!

The One I Love – Sugarland

Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
Well, it’s October so I wanted to do something Halloweeny (is that a word?). I decided to go with a devil/demon avatar since I have a great avatar I got many years ago. So I made the theme for myself as “fire and brimstone”. So then I started searching for “the” song. I was inspired when I heard REM’s The One I Love on my local 80’s station. I researched it a bit and found out that Michael Stipe did not want to add it to their latest album, Document, because it was too dark and violent. So I had to use it!

Elysium Cabaret’s October 11th 2019 Show

It was Friday night but something was missing! We gathered in The Empire Room at Copperhead Road for another amazing show from Elysium Cabaret, featuring some of the most talented and dedicated choreographers on the grid. We had Jilley, we had DJ Gunner, we had The Wiz… we had dancers and detailed sets, fabulous costumes and tight choreography… we had the best audience in either life, friends, family, and cherished guests… but Paul was missing! Yes, our Paul had slipped out a side door and headed out of town for his annual camping trip to the races. We missed you Paul! Stay safe, have fun, hurry home. Meanwhile, back at the club… Britt was filling in for Paul, being a beacon of welcoming warmth for all who attended.

Speaking of welcomes….

If it’s Friday, it’s Elysium Cabaret! In The Empire Room at Copperhead Road! Tonight’s show was a blast, super fun, attended by the best audience in SL with friends and family flocking to the venue to be greeted by Paul and Morganna, and DJ Gunner’s fabulous tunes. The Wiz was busy checking details backstage, including panty-checking, as Wiz has generously volunteered to be the Official Elysium Cabaret Panty Checker. So that no one forgets their knickers! In the generosity department, Stoke has joined Wiz in the Panty Checker department. Stoke will be providing Quality Assurance, to double check that everyone has on their undies. So if you notice someone peeking up your skirt, if not Wiz, it is probably Stoke. All the more reason to not wear panties!!
