Friday, July 30th is our monthly theme show. This month’s theme is: In the Spotlight. Our choreographers will be performing acts created in black boxes, that put them in the spotlight!

Well now! This was quite the night. Big celebration with RL birthdays for Annastazia and our Morganna, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ladies, I will happily eat two cakes in your honour! DJ Gunner was warming up the audience with his infectious tunes as guests arrived, greeted by Paul and Morganna, champagne flowing freely. Backstage, The Wiz was making sure all the dancers were warming up, getting their makeup on, slipping into costumes, feathers and sequins, wigs and powder galore. I was out the back, smoking a fatty before slithering in through a side door and hopping into my giant cup of coffee, curtesy my beloved friend Cathy Cheveyo, where I soaked until the show started. We had a debut to look forward to, which was the debut of the legendary Jenna Dirval. So nice to have her here to share her creative vision on the Big Stage at Elysium! So, let us take a look at some pics from the show, which was spectacular, with some of the most imaginative dancing on the grid. With thanks to our choreographers and dancers, and a huge thanks to our cherished audience.

Quient has been called a prodigy. He is new to dance but dances like he has been doing it for years, with fabulous sets, great costumes, tight choreography and excellent mover work. The choreo in this performance was fantastic!

A beautiful set that invited us into Dear’s boudoir, where I planted cameras, and doesn’t she look breathtaking! Very romantic performancethat left everyone speechless.
What a fantastic set and superb use of animesh, plenty of onstage magic and the gorgeous Bianka tantalizing the audience with her bodacious badonkadonk!
========================================== Azdra With Yancy Alannah Myles – Black Velvet
The wolves were howling tonight as Azdra gave us a sensuous and tantalizing, super sexy slow tease to one of my favourite songs! Velvety choreo, smooth and provocative.
========================================== Hailie With Quient Taylor Swift & Zayn Malik – I Don’t Want to Live Forever
Hailie never fails to widen the eyes with her onstage magic and creative presence. This dance was so clever and super cool, full of emotion, creating desire as we waited in anticipation for these two dancers to get together!
========================================== Jenna Nina Simone / Feeling Good
Exacting choreography in an expression of joy and gratitude for the gift that is life, this dance felt like a blessing to the soul… Jenna’s Elysium debut! WELCOME JENNA, we hope to see more of you!

I don’t think the two faces of Eva in this dance have ever been more delicious. She blew my mind with this dance. The choreo is so tight and the magic is mesmerizing, I could watch this over and over! GIMME THIS SET!

Guess what day it was? I think by now, everyone knows it was Friday night, and of course Elysium Cabaret was performing in The Empire Room at Copperhead Road. This show was amazing… epic! Stunning performances with every act bringing someone unique and special to the Big Stage. It was inspiring, energizing, and incredibly powerful, this gathering of so much creative focus shared in one show. It can be overwhelming to absorb that much imagination in one event. It is truly a marvel of human ingenuity. I am ever-awed by what our choreographers conceive.
Speaking of conceiving, congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Strong, who are with child and going to be bringing a little one into the world soon! For those who do not know, that is Quient and Hailie Strong. *smiles warmly*
Tonight was also a debut! Yancy performed for the first time on the Elysium stage! What a delight to have him join us. We very much enjoyed his exacting choreography and clever mover work, as well as an exciting stage that invoked colour-changing magic and other surprises that made for a performance that I’d like to see again. I really liked this debut. Welcome to Elysium, Yancy!

Melli did a brilliant dance full of stage magic to one of the defining songs from my teenage years. Such precise choreo, great mover work, and an eye-popping set made for a very powerful performance.
Britt’s avant-garde performance to a heart-breaking song made for blurry vision. Exquisite choreography and a unique costume amidst a metaphoric set, full of meaning.

La Temptress with legs that go all day, luring a handsome man away from his flight to a palace of romance and passion! Absolutely perfection in choreo and costume, beautiful sets and such a smooth scene change.

Who put the naughty in Nadi? Have you ever noticed they sound the same? Well, our Nadi got a little bit naughty and looked delicious… good enough to eat! Super sexy and what a great set!

What a cool set and such exacting choreography is always delightful to watch! Love the costumes, colour-changing magic, and a trippy song… welcome Yancy to the Big Stage in his debut Elysium performance!

Totally hittin’ vibrant colour and super sexy ladies working out on a slick set with a great song and badass choreography. This was so much fun!

Sarah the Metaphoric takes us all on a mystical, dark journey and tells an intense story through song, choreography, costume and set. The dragon was very cool… well, hot, and gave her power, taught her how to slay her demons.

This dance was created as a tribute to Audace owner Debbie Doo. I love my beautiful little stars who come out and share their colourful light with the audience as we promenade in a dreamy, magical sky.

It was Friday night, which always means ELYSIUM CABARET! In The Empire Room at Copperhead Road, our visionary choreographers had prepared a stellar show featuring some of the most creative acts on the grid! Arriving guests were greeted by Paul and Morganna, with free champagne and scrumptious horderves served by shirtless Chippendales Dancers… oh wait. That last part was only in my imagination. And they weren’t serving food and drinks, they were massaging my bunions.
What is a bunion anyways? A bunion is a bony bump that forms on the joint at the base of your big toe. It occurs when some of the bones in the front part of your foot move out of place. This causes the tip of your big toe to get pulled toward the smaller toes and forces the joint at the base of your big toe to stick out.
How’d we get on this topic? Back to the show. The show went very smooth and was super fun! We saw the return of Chrissy Rhiano to the Big Stage… welcome back Chrissy! Security kept a careful eye on the back doors least Divalin try to defect, and we were successful in securing her for the duration of the show. She doesn’t realize this, but if she does try to slip out a side door, traps have been set that will prevent her abdication. The floors drop out and she will fall into a holding tank wherefrom security will drag her back to the Big Stage.
We only had three arrests tonight, which were all paparazzi-related. The sillies trying to sneak backstage to get pics of the dancers in their knickers, but their feeble attempts were unmitigated failures, as The Wiz was patrolling and had them seized and publicly lashed with a feather duster! We left them to spend a snowy night in the stocks. Because it is always snowy winter on The Empire Room platform. If you haven’t treated yourself to the beautiful snowy Rockefeller park Paul has built, take a look! Just walk out the front door of The Empire Room and straight ahead, cross under to the park. It’s very romantic and relaxing.

Car wash bubbles brought us gorgeous hard-working girls who danced up such a sweat, they had to change into their bikinis, which worked the audience up into a sweat!

Always enchanting, Ness gave us a heart-breaking performance of the soul of a woman whose time to pass on had come. The bittersweet beauty and devotion made the eyes mist and the vision blur.
========================================== Azdra With Britt, Hell, Beebs, Cael, Yancy, Melli, Ariel, Morganna, Hailey, Quint, Zach Lindsey Stirling – Master of Tides
The pirates met their dancing matches in the sea sprites! Very creative costuming, it was like watching the pirates dance with the sea itself.
========================================== Chrissy With Cassie Meg Myers – Little Black Death
Chrissy danced the Phantom of the Opera of a sorts, in reverse, starting with the tragic ending and then regressing back through the romantic events that led up to it.Very clever!
========================================== Dear With Taema, Kys, Hailie, Q, Melli, Yancy Charlie Puth – The Way I Am
Dear is so greedy, she wants it all! Well, she gave it all with this dance featuring some uber sexys dancing on colourful rotating disks in a super fun performance.
========================================== Rory With Zach, Queint, Hell & Eli Home Free – Country Fried Pop Medley
Rory is always full of surprises and special touches in his dance with incredibly tight choreography. All these hunky shirtless country boys, sharing their romantic adventures on the Big Stage!
========================================== Wiz With Dear and Imogen Hideaway – Kiesza
The Wiz also gave us a shirtless treat, with his signature tight choreography, and two faux angels to back him up. I love The Wiz! Our beloved Stage Manager!Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration? I’ve had Hideaway in my “To Do” folder for a long time. I always imagined trying to replicate the video, which would take weeks of work to do it right, so I went dance shopping and found some good ones at Paragon. The tempo was perfect, I added a street and some angel dancers. WaaLaa!
What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance? Keeping it simple and focusing on the “spirit” of the dance.
What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning? It’s a fun reminder that it’s not about the destination… It’s the journey… and the people you interact with along the way.
