1. What is your history with dance in SL?
Not much of a resume, just a story!
I was a fan of the RockShoppe tribute band for a long time, and about that time I got partnered to a guy who was a dancer in Klark Harvy’s old Full Package group. I used to go to all these shows and just marvel at what I was seeing. I started collecting dances and freestyling everywhere. I never had a HUD, just danced out of my inventory. I broke up with the dancer, and after a couple more social disasters I decided I wanted to dance too, to have something to take up all my time.
I started going to dances shows when I could find them, trying to find a group I could join. I got rejected by one very famous group (I won’t name names, but I’ve since thanked the leader for rejecting me!) One night I stumbled on a show, and recognized one of the RockShoppe players sitting at a table. I asked to share his table, he said yes, then he told me about Elysium and the Empire Room. At the first show I was bowled over by the crowd dance. I talked to a lot of the dancers and one asked me to come be a guest in her act.
Six weeks later I debuted with my first dance. I was instantly, totally, hooked.
2. What do you enjoy the most about SL dance?
So many things! I’m a writer, and was never really a visual artist, so this stretched me in so many ways. It takes all my time and money, so it keeps me away from men! I’ve had to learn so much about computers and all the techie things in SL to make things work!
But the thing I enjoy most is the really amazing creativity I see at every show. It’s really the most special thing to do in SL.
3. What do you enjoy the least about SL dance?
I’m a soloist, because my times in SL have never made it work for me to have a dance partner. So dance for me is really a pretty lonely thing to do. Maybe its like that for everybody, I don’t know. But the feeling I have between curtain open and curtain closed pays for all!
4. What has been your best experience in SL dance?
All of it!!!! But I must mention that this year I was nominated for Avi Choice Awards in 2 categories. I had no idea it was going to happen and didn’t know who nominated me. It was such an unbelievable honor. I know so many people campaign for these nominations and for votes, so to just be nominated out of the blue was the most humbling honor I can imagine.
5. Out of all the dances you have done, which is your fave?
I performed to “Human” by Christina Perri. My costume was a marionette in a set designed as a little girl’s bedroom. The theme was the toy that dreams to become a real human. I think there’s something in that idea for all of us in SL, and might say something about why we are here.
6. What message would you like to leave for your fans?
There is no greater honor for an artist of any type than to have fans who enjoy her work. I feel so humbled and thankful to have fans, and each and every one means the world to me.
7. Anything else you’d like to share?
As some of you know, I’m a writer. I’ve written many poems and short stories, and I’ve published a novel that I wrote entirely in SL, with all of the characters inspired by people I know here. I’d love to talk to anyone who might be interested in my writing.
Oh… and THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!
