May 25th 2018 Show

It was another exciting Friday night as the sun set and the red carpet lit up with our distinguished guests, our frams coming out to welcome in the weekend with the Elysiums, in The Empire Room on Copperhead Road sim! While DJ Ame bounced the gathering crowd with tunes, Jilley and Paul welcomed each guest with smiles and complimentary champagne. Backstage was buzzing as dancers warmed up, put on makeup, adjusted costumes, and peeked nervously between the curtains to steal glimpses of the audience, in anticipation of another fabulous show. Here is what the show looked like, with thanks and appreciation to all who participated, whether they did so from the stage or the audience:

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
NOT ANY REALLY I ENJOYED DOING THE SET IT WAS FUN.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
OHHH FOR SURE MOSTLY FUN, BUT ALSO TRYING TO SHOW RESPECT FOR THE THEME.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?

Bayou Boogie Jordan Antonia

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
I have been wanting to do this song for a long time, the beat just really made me want to move. With Memorial Day it all seemed to melt together perfectly.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
This will sound boring but this act came together like a dream, and they rarely do. So this time I am just counting my blessings.

3. What does this dance mean to you?
I always love a vintage style… but this song gives it a modern edge that really makes it entertaining.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Just sit back and enjoy:)

THE RAMPAGE from EXILE TRIBE – Get Ready to RAMPAGE

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
I just love this song, the energy in it, I love K-Pop and J-Pop.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Web built the set and the choreo was a blast, but the particles were difficult because they are not named in the HUD (just texture images, and many look very similar) so changing them is hard. There are a lot of textures in the HUD, and I have to click through to find the right ones and try to remember when in the dance to change them… the song does not really have words, so particle change cues are tricky. They have to be changed manually during the dance, so it is a bit messy and is never exactly the same twice.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
This was pure fun and weirdness, I love the zany choreography and the costumes are so cool.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
I created it with Web Sass.

Queenie
SEVDALIZA – HUMAN

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
~I heard the song while listening to youtube one day and could immediately see the set I wanted to build, so I ran with it.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
~rotation scripts are always a struggle for me, this was no exception.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
~just creepy fun!

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
~The lyrics say it all:
“I am flesh, bones, I am skin, soul I am human.
Nothing more than human.
I am sweat, flaws, I am veins, scars I am human.
Nothing more than human.”
We all are perfectly imperfect.

Here is what the show looked like! And have a read from those who chose to participate with the choreographer’s perspective of their dances.

Nara
“I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables
A beautiful ballet to a legendary song.

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
Les Miserables has always been one operatic that has moved me. I cried most of the way through it being fortunate enough to see a live production. The emotions it conveyed was totally heart wrenching. This particular song was one that I could ‘feel’ perhaps the strongest.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
a… Wanting to convey to the audience the emotions behind the dance, hoping they would be ‘lost’ in the act and music. Sense how I was feeling, as the character I am portraying (Fantine). Move them. I admit freely, when doing this dance, I tear up. Guess it is part of who and what I am.

b.. Knowing it would be a slow dance, had to make sure that I moved from the rear to the front without sliding. (Hate slides!!!) plus getting there, to the front of the stage, as quickly as possible.

c. Choosing the right animations at certain points of the routine. Lordie, tried this and that till finally was satisfied. Did I mention I like smooth transitions also. Lol.

d. The set build was important too. Giving it depth. I think I achieved that.

e. Not using any bells and whistles apart from the darkening of the set at one point and a light ray appearing. I relied solely on the dance. Alone.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
I cannot say it was fun. It was a need to express my interpretation, in dance, of how Fantine was feeling. I want to quote here please. ……..

“Fantine sings “I Dreamed a Dream.” In it, she comments on how innocent she was, how romanticized her view of the world was, and how that has all come tumbling down around her. It is sung at the point in the musical where she finds herself without a job as she tries to support her young daughter, Cosette. ”

Yes I did enjoy creating it. It truly came from my heart, an inspiration.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Only that I hope they enjoy it. Maybe dabbed their eyes slightly. I hope so. That is all I really desire.

Thank you.

Nara

Antonio
The Spencer Lee Band – The Wolf
The epitome of hawt, Antonio steams up the Elysium stage!

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
Just really felt the song, had a vision when I heard it.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
The fades mostly and the car had one disappear.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
I think when a woman can bring out the beast in her man be it wolf or lion she will get ravished just right.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Hailie kept the lion in me well hungry when I was going this set.

The Sunpunchers – Hooker Shoes
Shoes! Excellent mover work and a costume change, clever set and great choreo!

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
~Who doesn’t love shoes? The shoes in the song *call out to her* so she has to get them. I completely understand!

~Inspiration? When I was younger, you see, I was living in the ratty old apartment. At night I had to walk the streets to get money. One night this amazing man drove up in a silver Delorean and asked me for a *date*….to make a long story short, I spent a week with him in a fancy hotel and then we fell in love. He was my knight in shining arm…..wait…..no no that was a movie I was watching….

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
It is sometimes a challenge to pass your vision on to the audience….but it’s about shoes, and loving shoes, and talking to shoes…..

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
Totally silly and fun!

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Ladies, when the shoes talk…..listen!

MENS! MENS MENS AND MORE MENS! Thank you so much, Si!

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
It is a really fun song and with a variety of music styles in one number. It gives me a chance to be more creative and have everything from Swing, Robot and R & B Animations all in the same dance.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Having 12 men on stage, with 3 groups dancing different animations at the same time. All the animations needed to work with the music and seem to be part of the wider number. Everything had to be part of the one routine.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
This is a fun dance, but this is an updated version of a dance I did a few years ago for Relay for Life Cancer Charity in SL. Now there is more colour and a beach party theme, but it is always an upbeat and fun dance.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
The preparation time back stage to get everyone in the dance onto the right dance huds and the right animations, and on the correct dance movers. It is run with military precision to make sure everyone is right ready for the dance at the start, so then everyone can enjoy it and have fun.

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
This song would not get out of my head, it haunted me until I made it.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
The timing of the fades and working the different set designs and movers into place.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
The song has a great sound to it, Ivy Levan her voice is just tremendous

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?

Elayn
Prototype – Viktoria Modesto
Elayn once again fascinates the mind with a dance that is pure brilliance.

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
I was very inspired by Victoria Modesta who is a RL amputee, but she doesn’t see it as any sort of disability, it’s her inspiration to be unique and amazing!

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
The first part is a recording of the similar movements in RL. Timing animations to that took longer than the rest of the dance! I really wanted to do it justice.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
There is no such thing as disability unless it is imposed by others.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Just what is said above!

Bond! Antonio Bond! Sounds better than Aunt Tonio (the DJ needs pronunciation lessons) but WOW what a slick production these acts were!

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
I like James bond movies, I thought the props from the movies would be good to dance on.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Placement for all the dance balls, 60 balls can be a tight squeeze.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
It was just a bit of fun, Crowd dances usually are.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Just have fun with it, and remember men the ladies to like a man in a suit.

Gman was in great form on the mic, full of energy and warming up the audience with fabulous tunes as Paul and Jilley welcomed our guests with an open bar, everything on the house. Poor Batman, and look at Catwoman, what a tease! All Batman can do is look. But she does have that lasso, he could be in trouble.

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
A former friend suggested it for a Batman themed show.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Movers, they did not want to cooperate, and getting the dancers seen through the window.

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
It’s a challenge, fun when it is done and runs smoothly. Most fun to build.

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
I am honored to have had help with choreo and movers from Ame, Baby and Jilley. And that Lina stepped up last minute to fill in.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?

Seven Lions Featuring Kerli
Fabulous, creative set, a unique song, and interesting costumes combined with wonderful choreography and mover work. This is how it’s done!

1. Why did you choose this song to create a dance to? What was your inspiration?
When I originally heard this song I was struck how it crossed not only the fantasy lines but also how the song emphasised the racial issues of todays modern age… it struck my heart and soul.

2. What were the particular challenges you dealt with when creating this dance?
Finding the right pieces that incorporated all aspects of both human and Seelie/Fae in order to show the war between the races…

3. What does this dance mean to you? Is it a bit of fun, or is there a deeper meaning?
I think for me it held deeper meaning… I grew up in a biracial abusive home and was placed at a young age in foster care where I was left bounced around the system until I was 21. For me this song emphasised the difference in worlds…

4. Is there anything you would like others to know about your dance?
Just how one must look beyond the surface of what is there before you… because each of us has our own world we live in… our own reality… and we are fighting individually to make those realities a strength and a beauty simplistic to be accepted, whether it is religious, intelligence or even simply a choice of sexual preference… it is our personal battle for our world and how we wish… no how we need to be able to live our lives…
